Project Manager Structural & Misc. Metals

Wea are seeking an experienced Senior Steel Project Manager / Steel Detailer capable of managing structural steel and general construction projects from the initial customer opportunity through design, engineering, detailing, fabrication, field installation and final completion.

This is not a desk-only project management position.

We are looking for a hands-on construction professional who understands how work is designed, fabricated, and built. The successful candidate must be comfortable moving between the customer's office, jobsite, engineering/design environment, fabrication shop, and field operations.

What You Will Do
Develop customer relationships and assist with identifying, estimating, and securing project opportunities.
Perform jobsite walkthroughs and evaluate existing conditions.
Take accurate field measurements for structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication.
Review architectural, structural, civil, and mechanical drawings.
Develop project scopes, concepts, budgets, estimates, and proposals.
Create structural and miscellaneous steel shop drawings using SDS2 and/or Tekla Structures.
Create and modify drawings using AutoCAD.
Coordinate structural engineering, connection design, and other project engineering requirements.
Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, approvals, and revisions.
Coordinate fabrication with our structural steel fabrication shop.
Resolve fabrication, detailing and constructability questions with shop personnel.
Plan erection sequencing, access, logistics, deliveries, cranes, rigging, equipment and manpower.
Direct and support field supervisors and crews during steel erection and general construction operations.
Visit jobsites to verify dimensions, existing conditions, progress and quality.
Answer technical questions from customers, engineers, general contractors, shop employees and field crews.
Identify conflicts and constructability problems before they become field problems.
Manage purchasing, subcontractors, scheduling, change orders, project costs and overall project profitability.
Maintain responsibility and ownership for assigned projects from beginning to end.

Required Qualifications
Significant experience with structural steel fabrication, steel erection and construction projects.
Demonstrated project management experience.
Proficiency with SDS2 and/or Tekla Structures.
Strong proficiency with AutoCAD.
Ability to independently produce and review structural and miscellaneous steel shop drawings.
Ability to take accurate field measurements and convert those measurements into fabrication drawings.
Strong understanding of structural steel connections, fabrication methods, welding, bolting, erection practices and construction tolerances.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and construction drawings.
Practical field experience sufficient to confidently direct shop and field personnel.
Strong understanding of construction means, methods and sequencing.
Ability to recognize constructability issues and develop practical solutions.
Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to jobsites throughout the region.

Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following areas is particularly valuable:
Structural steel estimating
Miscellaneous metals
Steel connection coordination
Crane lift planning
Rigging and heavy equipment
Commercial and industrial construction
Existing-building renovations
General contracting
Field supervision
Project scheduling
Procurement and subcontractor management

Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for more than someone who can manage schedules, paperwork and subcontractors.
The right candidate should be able to walk onto a jobsite, review an existing condition and determine:
What needs to be built? How should it be detailed? How will we fabricate it? How will we install it? And what problems need to be solved before the work reaches the field?
This position requires a self-motivated problem solver who takes ownership. We value people who ask good questions, communicate clearly, follow through on commitments and understand the importance of coordination between customers, engineering, detailing, fabrication and field operations.
