We are seeking an experienced Civil Defense Litigation Attorney to join a growing litigation team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil defense litigation and experience handling matters from initial pleadings through resolution.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and independently handle civil litigation matters from inception through resolution.

Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, and other legal documents.

Conduct and defend depositions.

Represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.

Conduct legal research and develop case strategies.

Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and other parties.

Evaluate claims, develop litigation strategies, and provide regular case updates.

Prepare reports, budgets, and other case-related documentation.

Collaborate with attorneys and other team members on complex litigation matters.

Maintain an organized caseload and effectively manage deadlines.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Active South Carolina Bar admission.

3+ years of civil defense litigation experience.

Strong experience with pleadings, motions, discovery, and legal research/writing.

Experience with depositions, mediations, hearings, arbitrations, and/or trials.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to independently manage litigation matters and communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel.

Ability to work in a hybrid environment based in Columbia, South Carolina.

Highly Preferred

Construction defect litigation experience.

Insurance defense experience.

Experience handling matters in both state and federal courts.

Experience with mediation and arbitration.

Experience managing complex or high-value civil litigation matters.

Experience developing client relationships and handling matters with a high degree of independence.
